Giving even just a few hours a month can help.

Volunteers are crucial to keeping our group running smoothly! As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we need reliable people to help with the daily operation of our adoption center as well as cleaning and adoption events at the Spokane Valley PetSmart. Our volunteers care for our cats not only by feeding, watering, and cleaning up after them, but also by providing them the love and compassion many of them have missed in their lives.

So many of the cats we rescue come from uncertain and unsafe environments. Many have been picked up as strays or abandoned by their owners. Regardless of their past, transitioning into our program can sometimes be traumatic. Your willingness to spend time with our cats, giving nothing more than a caress and a reassuring voice, can help that animal start to trust people again. That trust and comfort around people is an integral part of helping the cat find a new, loving home.

Volunteering at our Adoption Center

Volunteering at our adoption center is our most popular way to volunteer. Tasks include cleaning, caring for and socializing cats, and talking with potential adopters about cats that may fit their family.

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and must make at least a 3 month commitment. If volunteers are under 16 years old, they must volunteer with a parent or guardian. If you’re interested in volunteering, please download our volunteer application. You can either email your completed form to us at, or you can bring it with you to our volunteer orientation.

Volunteer orientation takes place on the first Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at our adoption center on Argonne & Trent. No advanced reservations are required. If you haven’t already submitted your application to us, please bring it with you. We’ll tell you all about what our volunteers do, our health and safety requirements, and cleaning and adoption procedures. You’ll also be able to ask questions. At the end of orientation, we’ll find out what schedule you’re interested in (i.e.once a week, twice a month, etc.) and get you scheduled starting the following month.

Volunteering at PetSmart

All PetSmart volunteers must be at least 18 years old and should also attend the volunteer orientation at our adoption center to learn more about the program and sign up to volunteer.

Upcoming Volunteer Orientations

Please check the Partners for Pets Volunteer Sign Up/Orientation Facebook events for upcoming dates and updates.

Our foster parents are the heart of our group. Foster homes provide a stable, nurturing environment for cats and kittens when they first enter our program. They care for the rescues until they can be moved to our adoption center to find their forever homes. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to months, depending on the care they need (the longest usually being pregnant momma cats). Fosters also get final approval on all adoptions of their foster cats, since they have spent the most time with the cats in a home environment and have the best idea of what kind of home would fit the cat's needs.
